Big polluters are poisoning this year’s global climate talks. Sign the petition to ask the United Nations to kick big polluters out of the talks!

Friend,

Climate change is happening now: loss of sea ice, accelerated sea level rise and longer, more intense heat waves and storms. With so much at stake, our actions to address climate change must be bold, they must be global and they must happen NOW. If we are to move forward, we must address the single greatest threat to progress: the fossil fuel industry. For more than two decades, the world’s biggest polluters have fought intensely against regulation that would reduce greenhouse gas emissions and protect our planet, all because it would cut into their profits. In order to address climate change in the face of such determined opposition, we must kick big polluters out of climate policy.

In a rational world, policymakers would have listened and acted on climate change scientists when they first sounded the alarm. But in this world, reason, having won the argument, has so far lost the fight. The fossil-fuel industry as become the richest enterprise in human history and has been able to delay effective action, almost to the point where it's too late.

That's why we are looking to the next round of negotiations, in Paris this December, to take decisive action on climate. This is a pivotal moment to create real solutions to address climate change. World leaders from Pope Francis to President Obama are calling for action, but it's up to we the people to make sure our leaders take bolder action to address the climate crisis.

Sign the petition to kick big polluters out of climate policy making now. They've prevented progress on bold climate action for too long already.

“Why would you let the professional arsonist join the volunteer fire department?” said Bill McKibben, author and co-founder of 350.org, “[Big polluters] are the guys who want to keep the problem going, not solve it.”1

We need a strong outcome from the climate talks in Paris this December in order to seize the momentum of a growing global movement and to push leaders to take bolder action to address the climate crisis. But the fossil fuel industry, lead by big corporations like Exxon, Citigroup and Peabody Coal have a vested interest in continuing to delay, weaken and block climate policy at every level. To stop them, we need to protect the United Nations climate talks and climate rules around the world from big polluters.

It’s time to kick the fossil fuel industry out of climate policy making. Before we deliver this petition to key climate delegates and decision-makers, we need to make sure we have as many people as possible from around the world signed on to this powerful action.

Thanks for taking (environmental) action,
