Tell Governor Jerry Brown to demonstrate real climate leadership by banning fracking in California.

Dear Friend,

Governor Jerry Brown began his fourth and final term earlier this month proposing a broad reduction in California's energy consumption. The New York Times could not have summed up his promises any better stating, "Mr. Brown was in effect proposing that California, which is already viewed as at the forefront in the battle to curb emissions, greatly expand cutbacks put in place in the state's landmark 2006 greenhouse gas emissions bills."1 One of his proposals even calls for generating 50 percent of California's energy from renewable sources like wind and solar by 2030.

That all sounds grand, but there is one big problem. California cannot be a leader in fighting climate change, because it still allows massive amounts of fracking throughout the state. Fracking leads to more global warming pollution, especially methane, which is much more potent than carbon dioxide. Not to mention it's impact on our water, air, health and more.

That's why next week, on February 7th, I will be joining thousands of fracktivists in California to demand REAL Climate Leadership. We will descend on Oakland, Jerry Brown's hometown, to tell him that to get serious about climate change he must ban fracking. Whether you can join us in California or not, can you add your name to this petition opposing the fracking that kills our air, pollutes our land and water and puts our health at risk?

I am a proud resident of New York where last month, Governor Andrew Cuomo banned fracking. Now it's California's turn. Can you imagine the impact on our movement when two of the most populous states in the country ban fracking? But while Governor Brown laid out bold plans to address climate change in his recent inaugural address, he made ZERO mention of the extreme dangers fracking has to the health and safety of our communities. That was a huge omission as right now 5.4 million Californians live within a mile of an oil or gas well that is often fracked; many of them children and the majority of them people of color and low wealth communities.2

The stakes could not be higher for climate justice, racial justice and just doing the right fracking thing.

Please click here and help me send Jerry Brown a message that it's time to get the frack out of California. Let's show the Governor and our friends in California what (environmental) action looks like.

Thank you for all that you do,

Anthony and the Environmental Action Frack-Free Fighters.
