Happening Now: A coalition of activists are descending on Governor Rick Scott's office demanding an end to climate censorship in Florida. Please chip in and support the fight to bring climate reality to the Sunshine State.

Friend,

You and I have certainly seen our share of climate deniers and their silly antics to prove that climate disruption is a myth, a hoax and a green conspiracy to thwart economic growth and freedom. Whether it's Senator James Inhofe (R-OK) bringing a snowball on the senate floor or Senator David Vitter (R-LA) asserting that "global temperatures haven't risen in 15 years," you would think that we've seen and heard it all. Well, Rick Scott will see your climate denial and raise you with climate censorship.

The governor allegedly issued orders banning the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) and other agencies from using phrases like "climate change" and "global warming" in public documents and other communications.1 Worse yet, Rick Scott dismissed an FDEP employee for using the term climate change at a meeting and told him not to return until he had "medical clearance of his fitness for duty."2 Even George Orwell could not have conceived such a totalitarian scenario. That's why a coalition of activists are headed to Tallahassee today demanding an end to Rick Scott's Newspeak. Can you chip in $5, $10, $25 or $50 to support cutting the red tape of climate censorship.

Today marks the last day of Sunshine Week in Florida, a week dedicated to government accountability and transparency. It seems that Rick Scott has forgotten about the spirit of Sunshine Week as well as the role that government has in protecting citizens. Climate censorship is the exact opposite of accountability, transparency and responsibility. No state employee should be reprimanded, ostracized or have their "medical fitness" for service challenged for having the temerity to simply do their jobs.

While today may be the end of Sunshine Week, it's only the beginning of this imperative campaign demanding answers to Rick Scott's overreach that puts the health, safety and welfare of Floridians at risk. Activists from Florida, led by our friends Progress Florida, plan on following the governor across the state until they get to the bottom of his science denying fiasco.

They are going to need our help to mobilize, create signage and spread the message that climate censorship casts a perilous cloud over the Sunshine State. That's why I am asking you to please chip in whatever you can to help keep this campaign rolling as long as need be. We can't let Rick Scott get away with trying to turn FDEP and other agencies into the Ministry of Information. The people of Florida deserve answers to Rick Scott's reprehensible behavior.

With your help we can send Governor Scott a message that when it comes to climate censorship ignorance is not strength, it's just reckless.

Thanks for helping to cut the tape of climate censorship,

Anthony for the Coalition of Climate Realists
