Friend, This Earth Day, a coalition of fracktivists and lawmakers is heading to Governor Andrew Cuomo's New York office to show him why he must choose renewable energy and clean air over fracked gas and climate chaos. To help him see this choice clearly, we're going to create an interactive art installation to mobilize people and show the governor we will not be denied. Now picture this -- a huge Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) barge in the form of a pinata filled with miniature wind turbines and solar panels. Throughout the day multiple people will take turns hitting it until all of the turbines and solar panels fall out, sending the message that we are determined to bust through our dependence on fracked gas and ready to travel the renewables road . With your help we can make this picture a reality. Can I count on you to chip in $30 or more to help us celebrate earth day in smashing style?
The Port Ambrose fracked gas barge facility would be located off the coast of Long Island, and would be the first industrial project built in the region in 14 years. It would wreak havoc on the livelihood of fisherman, devastate recreational activities, create navigational hazards in one of the busiest ports in the country. Not to mention that a giant, explosive, fracked gas facility presents a national security risk to nearby airports like JFK and landmarks like the Statue of Liberty. To add insult to injury, it would block an area previously proposed for a wind farm that 90 percent of Long Island residents support.1 Governor Cuomo may have banned fracking in New York, but there is still more work to be done to keep fracked gas out of the state. We need to let the governor know that if fracking is not good for New York, then neither is importing fracked gas from our neighbors in states like Pennsylvania and Maryland. Make no mistake, we are at a climate crossroad and must choose right now between traveling a path to climate catastrophe, or paving a new road to a clean energy future. There's only one way forward for our planet: Governor Cuomo must veto Port Ambrose immediately. I can't think of a better day to deliver this message than Earth Day. But to deliver a message that will be both memorable and undeniable, we're going to have to make our (Earth) day of action visual and picturesque -- kind of like the planet we're fighting to save.
